Principal's Message
Dear Alumni, Parents, and Supporters of We are pleased to welcome you to our school’s updated web site. This is a time of great change at Hartford Public. The school construction is moving along, and we expect to take over our renovated and expanded building in the spring of 2007. Even as work continues on the physical plant, teachers are involved in creating four smaller learning communities, which will offer a wide variety of educational and career opportunities for all of our students. In addition, all staff members are developing strategies to include literacy and numeracy strategies into their daily lessons. These skills are critical for the success of our students, who must meet increasing demanding requirements in order to graduate from high school. Another important activity in our school is the self-study for our upcoming accreditation visit by a team from the New England Association of Schools and Colleges. We at Hartford Public are certainly busy with important initiatives that will help us to provide a quality education for our students. As principal, I am eager to facilitate school change and to be an effective instructional leader. In the former role, I work with my assistant principals and my staff to support, encourage, and validate the actions of all members of the school community. As an instructional leader, I support research-based pedagogy in order to improve student learning. My administrative team and I value and respect the achievements and contributions of all members of the school community, and we respect teachers as equal professional partners who are experts in instructing students. To provide effective leadership in education is to go beyond doing business as usual and provide the capacity for the entire institution to move forward. In the changing society of the 21st century, I am attempting to be as dynamic an educational leader as the society in which we all operate, supporting the entire staff in their endeavors to provide the best education possible for our students. Change is not always easy, for it often creates
stress and anxiety. However, much is at stake, and we will, as a team of
professionals, work through these challenges. As we change, we make
daily progress toward a more inclusive, more relevant, and more
personalized education for each of our students. We work to make our
school safe; we strive to make our staff responsive to the needs of our
students; and we endeavor to provide our community with well-educated
citizens and leaders. This
web site will allow you to learn about who we are and what we do. Sincerely, Zandralyn Gordon, Ed.D. Principal
